Job Description

Trevor Day School seeks a compassionate and skilled Lower School Counselor or Psychologist to join our community in a part-time capacity. This individual will play a vital role in nurturing the social-emotional well-being and psychological health of our students. Working collaboratively with teachers, parents, and school leadership, the Lower School Counselor or Psychologist will provide thoughtful support, guidance, and resources.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provide short-term individual and group counseling, as well as immediate crisis support, to students.

  • Partner with teachers and school leaders to foster student mental health and well-being.

  • Offer guidance and support to parents through individual consultations and educational workshops.

  • Connect students with external treatment providers and maintain ongoing collaboration to ensure continuity of care.

  • Consult on how social-emotional learning, life skills, and mental health are incorporated into the curriculum.

  • In collaboration with the Academic Coordinator:

    • Review psycho-educational evaluations and IEPs; translate results into recommendation plans for teachers, including coordination of any testing accommodations.

    • Administer psycho-educational screenings.

    • Support coordination with parents and outside evaluators concerning student recommendations, supports, and ongoing assessment, as well as outside support service providers.

    • Assist in the development and implementation of individual student academic plans in conjunction with the classroom teachers and parents.

  • Work closely with the Division Director, Lower School Academic Coordinator, Middle & Upper School Psychologist, and Lower School Nurse to support the school community.

  • Participate in ongoing support team meetings.

  • Bring warmth, expertise, and a commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive school environment.

Structure of Working Hours/Days:

  • Working hours (16 hrs/week) will generally fall within the school day (8:00 am - 3:00 pm) based on student and faculty availability.

  • Flexibility may be required in response to urgent situations or needs.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Psychology or Social Work (doctorate preferred).

  • Minimum of five years of experience in the field, as well as prior experience in a school setting.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and the broader school community.

  • Demonstrated ability to build genuine, trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and engagement in school-wide initiatives.

  • A kind, adaptable, and creative approach, with a sense of humor and patience.

The annual salary range for this (0.4 FTE) part-time position is $40,000–$60,000. When extending an offer for employment, Trevor Day School bases the salary upon several factors that include (but are not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education, training, key skills, and peer salary equity. This part-time position does not include health benefits.
