Job Title: Cemetery Helper

Location: Canton, Ohio 44718

Pay Rate: $16.00/hour

Schedule: 40 hours per week

Contract Duration: Temporary through December 2025

We are currently seeking a Cemetery Helper to support the daily operations of a cemetery in Canton, OH. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to assist in creating and maintaining a respectful, clean, and dignified environment for families and their loved ones. Job Description:

The Cemetery Helper provides overall grounds maintenance services, ensuring the cemetery is well-maintained and respectfully prepared for burials and memorial installations. This includes landscaping, burial preparation, and grave marker placement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in performing openings and closings for burials, entombments, and inurnments.
  • Operate landscaping equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, and blowers to maintain the grounds.
  • Dig graves, haul dirt, place headstones, and assist with the setup and teardown of gravesites.
  • Set, install, and assemble memorials, markers, foundations, and outer burial containers.
  • Handle and complete service requests from client families, particularly related to grave and marker maintenance.
  • Perform 25-foot radius site preparation for burials and ensure the surrounding area is clean and neat.
  • Fill graves, tamp soil, seed or sod the area as needed after services.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment while adhering to all safety protocols and company procedures.
  • Complete Dignity training and uphold the standards of the Dignity Memorial Promise.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • 6 months to 1 year of experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or similar outdoor labor roles.
  • Proficient in operating hand-held tools and landscaping equipment such as shovels, picks, rakes, sledgehammers, lawn mowers, weed trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and water pumps.
  • Experience operating mechanical equipment including dump trucks, tractors, utility vehicles, marker trailers, dump trailers, jackhammers, tampers, and backhoes.
  • Ability to accurately use measuring tools such as tape measures and yardsticks.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work professionally with team members, contractors, and client families.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Comfortable working indoors or outdoors year-round in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work a standard 40-hour workweek with flexibility for additional hours as needed.
