The Position

Accounts Payable Specialist

Location:

Chicago, IL- Full-time Onsite

Position Summary:

The Accounts Payable Specialist is an entry-level role responsible for supporting the day-to-day processing of vendor invoices and payments. This position ensures that all payables are recorded accurately and on time while learning the foundational elements of accounting operations in a fast-paced retail environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enter vendor invoices into the accounting system with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Match invoices to purchase orders and receive documentation, where applicable.
  • Assist with the preparation of weekly payment runs (checks, ACH, wires).
  • Communicate with vendors and internal teams to resolve basic discrepancies or missing information.
  • Help maintain accurate and organized records, including invoice files and vendor contact information.
  • Support month-end close by assisting with invoice entry cutoffs and basic reconciliations.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to build knowledge and grow in the role.
  • Perform other administrative tasks and projects as assigned by the Accounts Payable Lead.

Qualifications:

  • No prior accounting or accounts payable experience required-training will be provided.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to stay organized and manage time effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., sorting, filtering, basic formulas).
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or a related field is a plus but not required.
